Fortress of Solitude

Nov 16, 2025    Joel Singleton, Psalm 4, refuge

Psalm 46 isn’t a quiet comfort; it’s a battle cry of stillness spoken in the shadow of crisis. Possibly written during the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem, this psalm calls us to something radically counterintuitive: be still. Don’t run, don’t panic, don’t fight; retreat into God Himself. He promises not only to defend, but to act. That night, He destroyed the enemy without a single arrow flying. Psalm 46 invites us to live that kind of trust; to let God be our fortress and find the kind of stillness that leads to awe. When we take refuge in Him, we don’t just survive; we behold the works of the Lord.
